Welcome to Jesuit Missions Volunteering
Volunteering Opportunites in Africa, Asia and South America
"Men and Women for others"
Who are we?
JMV is the overseas voluntary service agency of the British Jesuits and part of the Jesuit Mission office in Wimbledon. JMV works with Jesuits and their co-workers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Volunteers are men and women whose faith calls them to live out their Ignatian spirituality in the Jesuit missions abroad : to know, to love and to serve others in Christ.
What do we do?
The JMV programme is based on the needs of the Missions, finding volunteers to live in areas of the community where they will be of greatest service. The type of work that volunteers have been involved in includes teaching, assisting in parish work, medical care, computer projects and assisting in orphanges.
Although our programme has mostly involved young adults, there are some placements for experienced specialists. Please see the placements section for more details.
Time Commitment
- Our programmes will start in September 2013, October 2013 and early January 2014.
- The minimum commitment is 1 year or 6 months for some posts.
- There will be an 8 day Orientation Training Programme at the end of July 2013 for all volunteers.
- There will also be an optional retreat in June/July 2013
Funding
JMV volunteers raise their own funds and live out the Jesuit motto "men and women for others"
